Caroline P.'s Interview with a Pediatric Nurse

For my first Informational Interview, I interviewed my mother’s good friend, Debbie Moore. She has been a Pediatric Nurse for fourteen years. Before this job, she interned at Advocate Health Care in Downers Grove, Illinois. A Pediatric Nurse cares for those raging from infant to eighteen years old. They can be a licensed practical nurse or a registered nurse. One responsible of a Pediatric Nurse is the assessment of a patient. They also administer medication, give vaccines, and more. A very important part of this career is teaching a patient and their families about their care in the hospital as well as what they’ll need at home.

When asked what she likes most about her career as a Pediatric Nurse, Debbie response was “the rewards that my job brings.” One of the rewards is being able to help those in need. She loves to see a patient heal and get better. She is grateful to have a job that allows her to lend a helping hand to those in need. Challenges of this job, she says, are seeing the youth of today hurt and sick and seeing them in pain. One of the hardest things she had to do was take her of a 5-year-old patient who had a seizure.

Some words of advice she would give someone hoping to work in a health care field is to work hard and to make sure always to do your best. Nursing school is hard and a lot of work, but she says it is definitely worth all of the hard work. Being a Pediatric Nurse brings greats rewards and she recommends it to any Nursing student that loves kids and wants a job that allows you to help others. She says the salary isn’t too bad either.

She feels the demand for Pediatric Nurses or any career in health care will only increase over time. She also believes that with a rising demand, the more education, training, and experience one has only improved the chances you have of getting hired.
