The value and challenge of Practicum

Alexis:
"As a young adult nearing high school graduation, I realize that college is nearing and I'm really torn between baking and being a teacher. I never thought I could find such enjoyment out of work. Next year when I really have to decide what I want to do, it will be really difficult."

Kelly:
"Working at the Chamber has shown me how important it is to be friendly to clients or just people in general. If you show them respect and kindness, they will show it back and things may be easier to achieve and you can build up trust with them... I enjoy speaking to people on a regular basis and being part of a team rather than working alone."

Stacey:
"After rereading this week's reflection, I feel even more confident in my dream to become a teacher. I feel I have knowledge for helping young people learn. I want to make a difference in the world and help people become more educated and find ways to make it exciting for them... I feel this is what I would like to do and actually be excited to go to work every day.

Ashley:
"I helped kids that had a hard time on their math papers. I helped them make corrections to raise their scores... I really enjoyed this because I got to see exactly what mistakes they were making and teach them how to do it correctly."

Kirsten:
"This experience helped me grow as a person because I got to see first-hand what goes on after someone has a stroke or head injury, what they have to go through even to have a conversation with someone. It has helped me as a student because it opened my eyes to all the opportunities I would have as a speech therapist.

Anastasia:
"This was probably my best week yet in Practicum because I was placed where I have the strongest interest in a a career... I want to be an ultrasound technician and specialize in pregnancy."
